Nadia runs onboarding at a fintech: 160 account openings a day, each requiring a verified identity. Nadia is a persona, but her bill is computed on our actual pricing, and the price she replaces is publicly listed by market vendors.
What document-based KYC costs
Classic document verification (photo of the ID, selfie, comparison, manual review of doubtful cases) is priced around €1.50 per case on published price lists. At 160 cases a day, Nadia's bill exceeds €7,000 a month. And the price is only the visible part: minutes or hours of waiting before validation, drop-offs at the most expensive point of the funnel, and copies of passports to store, protect and purge.
What the European identity wallet changes
The PID (the personal identity of the eIDAS 2.0 wallet) is issued by the member state and cryptographically signed. Verifying it requires no OCR, no selfie comparison, no manual review: the proof is authentic or it is not, and the answer lands in seconds. The regulatory framework follows: the 2024 anti-money-laundering regulation explicitly recognizes the European wallet as a means of identity verification for customer onboarding, and eIDAS 2.0 will make its acceptance mandatory for services subject to strong authentication.
Concretely, account opening becomes an OpenID4VP session: the customer scans a QR code, approves in their wallet the request for the attributes compliance requires (family name, given name, date of birth, nationality), and Todis returns the verified values. The DCQL grammar lets you request exactly those attributes, no more and no less, including across several attestations in a single presentation.
The bill, precisely
160 cases a day is 4,800 cases a month. Since an account opening is a presentation session (creation, follow-up, result), that represents about 12,000 API requests a month. On the Premium plan (€250/year, 500 requests included, then a tiered rate from €0.08 down to €0.02), Nadia's bill is €880.83 a month.
| Document-based KYC | Todis, Premium plan | |
|---|---|---|
| 4,800 cases/month | ~€7,200 | €880.83 |
| Cost per case | ~€1.50 | ~€0.18 |
| Validation delay | minutes to hours | seconds |
| Manual review | yes, on doubtful cases | no |
| Documents stored | ID copies and selfies | none, and you do not need to |
About ten times cheaper per case, and this is not the entry-level plan: Premium carries the full DCQL grammar, a rate of 120 requests/second and consumption history with statistics and CSV export, which a compliance team always ends up asking for. Beyond 100,000 requests a month, we build the pricing with you.
What about the timeline?
Same transparency as usual: citizen wallets roll out progressively through late 2026 and 2027, and relying party registries open on December 24, 2026. A team integrating today against the European test ecosystem will have its account opening flow ready before its competitors, at the exact moment wallet acceptance becomes a regulatory obligation for its sector.
